What is cloud hosting in reality? The term 'cloud' seems to be quite fashionable in today's IT, Internet and web hosting terms. Even so, just a select few in fact can tell what cloud hosting is. Probably it is a fine idea to educate yourself about cloud hosting services. To make a quite long tale succinct, we will first let you know what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Restricted to a Remote Disk Storage Exclusively.

1. Furnishing a remote file storage solution, which comprises one single data storage tool for all clients, does not transform any given hosting service provider into an actual cloud hosting services provider.

The cPanel web hosting providers call the ability to deliver remote disk storage solutions a cloud hosting solution. Up until now there is nothing bad about the cloud terminology, but... we are talking about web hosting solutions, not remote data storage services for individual or corporate needs. There's constantly one "but", isn't there? It's not enough to name a shared web hosting solution, based on a one-server hosting platform, exactly like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" service. That's because the other constituents of the entire web hosting platform must be operating in exactly the same manner - this does not apply solely to the remote data storage. The other services entailed in the whole hosting process also must be remote, isolated and "clouded". And that's extremely difficult. Very few hosting companies can truly achieve it.

2. It Involves Domain Names, Emails, Databases, File Transfer Protocols, Control Panels, etc.

Cloud hosting is not confined to a remote data storage only. We are talking about a hosting solution, serving numerous domain names, sites, mailbox accounts, etc., right?

To dub a hosting service a "cloud hosting" one takes a lot more than providing merely remote data storage mounts (or probably servers). The e-mail server(s) have to be dedicated just to the mail related services. Doing nothing different than these specific tasks. There might be just one or possibly a whole bundle of e-mail servers, based on the overall server load generated. To have an actual cloud hosting service, the remote database servers should be working as one, irrespective of their real amount. Carrying out nothing else. The same goes for the clients' web hosting CPs, the FTP, etc.

3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of an authentic cloud hosting solutions provider will support multiple datacenter facility locations on different continents.

Here's an instance of a Domain Name Server of an actual cloud hosting corporation:

dns1.festivehost.com

dns2.festivehost.com

If such a DNS is supplied by your web hosting vendor, it's not a guarantee that there is a cloud hosting environment in use, but you can definitely be convinced when you perceive a DNS like the one underneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting service. This sort of Domain Name Server plainly demonstrates that the hosting platform in use is one-single-server based. Perchance it's cPanel. cPanel is a one-single-server hosting platform and maintains a market share of more than 98%. In cPanel's case, one single server handles all hosting services (web, electronic mail, DNS, databases, FTP, CP(s), files, and so on).

Remote File Storage - The Twisted Characterization of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting service is not confined solely to a remote file storage service, as many web hosting distributors wish it was. Unluckily for them, if that was the case, most of the file service providers would have been classified as cloud web hosting ones long ago! They are not classified as such, since they simply supply file web hosting solutions, not cloud hosting services. The file web hosting platform appears really very simple, in comparison with the hosting platform. The remote disk storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, because it's merely one small fraction of the whole cloud web hosting platform. There's plenty more to be found in the cloud hosting platform: the hosting CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the DNS cloud, the FTP cloud, the email cloud and... in the not too distant future, possibly a number of brand new clouds we currently don't know about will turn up unexpectedly.
